Butterflies are important animals due to the fact that they assist to pollinate flowers. More than that, they are pleasing to the eyes, and we love seeing them around us.

HISTORY OF NATIONAL LEARN ABOUT BUTTERFLIES DAY
Butterflies are flying insects with wide, fragile wings. Their vibrant wings and body make them popular among everybody, including grownups and children who go after and play with them. A butterfly’s life process or metamorphosis is extremely fascinating as they transition through 4 stages to become the appeal we all love and see.

A butterfly starts as an egg. The egg hatches within three to 7 days into larva, depending upon the species of butterfly. The larva or caterpillar feeds upon leaves or flowers, losing its skin numerous times as it grows; the process is called molting. The larva grows gradually over numerous weeks till it is a number of times the original size and after that turns into a Pupa. A number of these Pupas are suspended under a branch, hidden in leaves, or buried underground, and they become parts of the adult butterfly when they finally break free within 10 to 15 days.
