Teach your animal how to give a high five
What much better way to acknowledge and celebrate each other’s five-fingered achievements? Completed your breakfast? High five! Discover the elusive red ball? High five! Didn’t sniff your butt throughout the day? Well that’s simply good manners.

Make a list of all the things your family pet might do
Give you a thumbs up or down on your outfit. Hitchhike throughout the nation and send you postcards from unique locales. Text you when you’re running low on Meow Mix. Play bring on their own!

Get a manicure
Ok, this one’s truly for you. But your pet desires you to treat yourself!

If Pets Had Thumbs Day, it would be a disservice NOT to have National
According to the “U.S. Pet Ownership & Demographics Sourcebook” (2012 ), there are roughly 70 million animal canines and 74.1 million animal felines in the U.S. With that many pets, how could we NOT honor their absence of opposable thumbs in some creative way?

Pets resemble household
In 2011, 63.2% of animal owners supposedly felt that their furry friends became part of their household. And, as all good family members do, we like to compare each other! While our kids have thumbs and our pets do not, National If Pets Had Thumbs Day reminds us why this may (or may not!) be an advantage.

The possibilities are endless
Thumb wrestling? Excellent! The capability to open the door and leave your house on a whim? Possibly not so much offered Whiskers’ tendency to bother the senior neighbors. Having a day to fathom all the many things your pet could do is both amusing and possibly a tale (or is it tail?) of care. In any case, it will surely provide you paws.
